By simply using Gratz equipment and utilizing the Pilates method of pushing and pulling while using control, the results speak for themselves. The action of the “in” on the Reformer is where the most pay off is for our clients. Getting clients to focus on returning the carriage home with control instead of having it closed for them is one example of how the Gratz equipment aids in lengthening and strengthening of their bodies for the long run called life.
Sam and Susannah Cotrone
Cotrone Pilates
Cotrone Pilates is a classical Pilates studio that caters to the individual’s health and fitness needs. Cotrone Pilates doors opened in the Fall of 2013, by Sam and Susannah Cotrone who are both classically trained ballet dancers that were looking to create an environment that embraced the classical Pilates method of teaching, while maintaining a friendly and fun atmosphere. Our instructors are all trained and certified in the classical method, and are dedicated to helping clients achieve their personal fitness goals. Whether you have never tried Pilates before, or are ready to get back to practicing we welcome you!
The decision to open our studio was began with a desire to spread our Pilates wings and to learn more about the business side of running a Pilates studio. We had been independent contractors at our previous home studio Winsor Pilates for 12 years and felt ready to make a change and take on new challenges. Additionally, we recognized that our 3 children had become more independent as individuals and were collectively supportive of the idea of our family taking on this huge new project. So we all welcomed Cotrone Pilates, our fourth child! Without everyone’s enthusiasm and support it would have been even more difficult for Sam and I to take on opening a studio. And let me tell you there are so many new, challenging, and time consuming duties and you can’t begin to imagine how many there are until you have done it. But, the journey however difficult has been a worthy one and we are so happy we took the risk.
We are excited to announce that we are starting our Cotrone Pilates Certification Program in the Fall of 2018. As Second Generation instructors certified under Romana’s Pilates we aim to create a rigorous program that aspires to attract individuals that want to work to know the classical method inside and out, who have a passion for teaching and a desire to foster the love and joy of the method of Pilates in others. For more information and to be considered for the class of 2018 / 2019 please call at (213) 445-8114 or email Susannah Cotrone at sscotrone@aol.com.
My (Susannah Cotrone) first Pilates experience was when I was 14 years old while attending The Houston Ballet’s Summer Intensive, where taking Pilates before ballet class was a required part of their program for young dancers. My husband, Mr. Cotrone found Pilates in Los Angeles, after studying and performing for The Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Our Pilates journeys began separately but merged into one in 1998 when we met at Winsor Pilates in West Hollywood, almost exactly across the street from where Cotrone Pilates is open today! After working and studying under the watchful eye of Romana Kryzanowska and Dorothee VandeWalle Sam and I were both certified by The Authentic Pilates Guild in 2001 and then grandfathered into what is known today as Romana’s Pilates. Our continuing goal is to go deeper into the work and share our discoveries with our clients. We are so grateful to our living Pilates mentors Jay Grimes, Dana Santi, and Moses Urbano whose teachings provide us with constant inspiration, and to our gifted and talented peers we work with on a daily bases.
Cotrone Pilates on a daily basis is filled with the most amazing instructors who care so deeply about their clients, and we are so lucky to work along side these phenomenal people. Our studio manager Frank Zito is one of the best people I have ever had a chance to work with, and that goes for all of our awesome CP instructors. A studio’s work environment is crucial to its success and some people say you can feel it when you walk in to Cotrone Pilates. That vibe is created by the quality and care of the work being performed and the way our instructors work with each other. We are happy to say Cotrone Pilates is a place where instructors feel at home and can grow as teachers, in a safe and supportive environment.
Why did you put Gratz Pilates equipment in your studio? - Because it is the best. And it is gorgeous! It helps us stay true the work in a way that no other equipment can.
Pilates bodies that use Gratz equipment are slimmer, sleeker, and stronger without adding excess bulk.
We use Gratz equipment first and foremost because of the ease it provides us in transitioning from exercise to exercise. The fit and feel along with the stunning craftsmanship of the equipment makes every session worth the time. Whether we are working on our own personal practice or with our clients, the proof is in the results and demonstrated by how body performs and looks.
