Kara Wily's studio in Los Angeles is fully equipped with Gratz since its' establishment in 2008. Kara's plan to open a studio dates back to 1996, when she helped Colleen Glenn open Glenn Studio in Dallas, Texas. The studio is approximately 600 sq. ft. of well-equipped space located in Larchmount Village just north of Rosewood Avenue. Two Reformers, two Cadillacs, Pedi Pole, Wunda Chair, two Raised Mats and Magic Circles are regularly employed in the workouts. Lessons are taught on the basis of your conditioning and goals, all equipment is employed regularly based on your body's needs.
Kara Wily began teaching Pilates in 1993. She relocated to Los Angeles in 2000 from New York. During her time in New York, Kara was on scholarship at the Alvin Ailey School of American Dance, performed at City Center during the Alvin Ailey Company's winter season, and attended Columbia University for Post Baccalaureate Studies. Prior to her experience in New York City, Kara directed the Pilates Program at Performing Arts School Vienna in Austria. She taught Pilates lessons to performing arts students and gave classes in anatomy. She was also cast in the musical, Cabaret, performed at the Museum Quartier. Kara works from the fundamental principle that a human body possesses great potential. Her goal is to help people access their physical potential in a systematic, educational, and safe way. Camille Newbern and Jen Phegley are other two talented instructors that teach in Kara's studio.
My first opportunity using Gratz Equipment was at Drago's Gym in NYC, most of the equipment there was made by Joe Pilates himself. Romana told me early on that Mr. Pilates found someone to make his equipment and his name was Mr. Gratz. I had worked on other equipment previous to this experience, but as far as I was concerned there was no alternative. I quickly became a devotee of Gratz, the springs, the measurements, the materials all change the way the body experiences the exercise. The instruction is important but every individual has his or her own learning curve and sometimes it is the instructor's job to step out of the way and le the movement speak for itself - for this I only trust Gratz equipment.
